star trek

May 15th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

I was a little apprehensive about going to see the movie  Star Trek because I wasn’t sure it would meet my expectations since I’m an old time trekkie but I was pleasantly surprised that the producers did some unexpectedly great film making.  And I’ll have to say that Chris Pine did a great job as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto brought a unique quality to Mr. Spock.  It was refreshing to see the mix of new talent.  Thumbs up for Star Trek and I hope you have had time to see this good movie…..Lee

not to worry about carmakers

May 4th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

ok…since I drive a Dodge,  should I be worried about the trouble that Chrysler is in and the impending bankruptcy.  Well, from what I have read,  I can put my mind at ease because Chrysler will be back in a better financial situation ,  especially teaming up with Fiat which is an Italian company.   If you drive a GM car, Fiat also would like to buy most of General Motors as well.  With that bit of good news,  I believe that we are beginning a slow process of climbing out of this recession which should bode well for the remainder of 2009……Lee

really good flick

April 27th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

I stayed away from the intense movie called Obsessed starring Beyonce Knowles….just was not in that kind of mood even though the movie was number one at the box office.  Instead, I enjoyed a movie called The Soloist with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.  Its the true story of a journalist who discovers a former classical music prodigy, playing his violin on the streets of Los Angeles.  I give it 5 stars.    Hope you had a good weekend….Lee

watching calories

April 23rd, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

Stacie and I were talking recently about ways to kick our sugar habit…you may be the same way in that no meal is complete unless it is topped off by something sweet.  I found some ways to kick the habit in a newspaper article from Woman’s Day.   Here goes….Read labels to see if food contains alot of sugar…..watch what you drink, go with juices labeled 100 percent juice…….pick homemade foods, it seems to have less sugar……alter recipes by cutting sugar in half…..keep things like candy out of sight so you won’t be tempted and  finally , if you must have something sweet to round out a meal, try yogurt or a piece of fresh fruit.   You can do this too….good luck….Lee

Be a donor

April 17th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

I have long been an advocate for organ donation, because you can give the gift of life.  Every 11 minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list…..thats  a staggering number but if more people became organ donors , just think of the lives that could be saved.  South Carolina joined most other states by becoming a member of the Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, so even though you may have a heart and y symbol on your driver’s license, you must register your  legal consent…….please visit Every11Minutes.org and make it official……thank you for caring.     Lee

a big salute

April 9th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

Just  one month left on Teachers That Make Magic in this school year…..and I must say that the interest and participation  are the best ever.  I  find it a great honor to salute the teachers that really do an outstanding job in the education of our children and instill values that last a lifetime.   This month Keith Finch, a special education teacher at Mauldin Middle School, is the teacher that we are saluting.  If you would like to nominate a teacher or just read the stories that we have received here at Magic….just go to our website at magic989onlline.com ……thanks…Lee

a really good man

April 7th, 2009 by lalexander-greenville

I have always admired former Secretary of State Colin Powell and I read recently that he will appear on an upcoming episode of Extreme Makeover.  He’ll be meeting a former Army combat medic who suffers from  a war related illness and is now confined to a wheelchair.  I’ll be watching and I hope you will be too….This particular show will be broadcast on May 3rd on AB C……Extreme Makeover has done so much good for so many families in need.  It needs to continue having a big fan base. ……….Lee
