condolences for Monnie

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Monnie Whitson lost her wonderful daddy recently and I just wanted to send her my sympathy and to say I’ll always cherish the memories that we all had of Tony.  He was the kind of parent that all children dream of having.  He was witty, fun to be around, helpful to anyone who needed a boost and a loving father to his family.  A call from you to Monnie would mean so very much to her and I for one am glad to work with such a caring and loving friend.   Lee

an idol to many

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Whatever your opinion of Michael Jackson, he was truly one of the giants in the music industry…and there will never be another King of Pop just like Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll.  It was such a shock  because just the night before he had been practicing for his upcoming concerts in London and apparently was feeling good.   But we won’t know what caused his heart to suddenly stop for some time until all the medical results are in.  I knew he was going to be a superstar when I began playing his music in early years.   Michael was a true oiginal and we’ll never see another one like him for his kind of talent in our lifetime.  Lee

Dad would be proud

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

As a very young lad, my dad would take me with him when he  played golf mainly on the weekends. He loved the game but just to walk with him and see him play was a thrill..He died when I was 9 years old and I just kind of lost interest in the game.  I did play a little golf when I was in the Navy stationed in California but since then my interest has been to watch  tournaments.  I know my dad would be so proud of Lucas Glover and his accomplishments , especially winning the U.S. Open..and of course I feel the same way…So , congrats Lucas.  You’ll be such a wonderful role model for kids that have come to love the game of golf…Talk with you later..Lee

Tesh touches alot of listeners

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Being a fan of John Tesh it was a thrill to meet him when he was at Furman for his recent concert.  I wanted to share with you an e-mail we got from his manager……John,
I just wanted to thank you for saving my husband’s life. He was riding in his car and listening to you on the radio. You were talking about how your jaw may hurt if you are having a heart attack and his jaw was hurting and he has a history of heart problems so he drove himself to the hospital and sure enough he was having a heart attack. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and if it had not been for you that afternoon I may not have him now. We will always be loyal fans.

Sincerely,
Shannon L.

a few adventurers

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Outside of radio, my life is a little mundane and that is backed up by an interesting observation by AOL….It appears that people who enjoy news programs on t.v. are very basic and likes to read the fine print, which I do.  But even though I don’t like surprises, I need to add a little adventure to my life.  Now if only I can find someone thats up for a little enjoyment  maybe I can put some consistency back in my life….take care and smile..Lee

Help for Shriners Hospital

Monday, June 15th, 2009

There is a real possibility that the Shriners Hospital

in Greenville could close in the very near furture.

That’s why I encourage you to attend and support

any fundraiser that is held in support of keeping

it open.  So, with that please attend the grand opening of

the Lollipop Shop scheduled from June 19th until

the 21st at 640 South Main St. next to Rick

Erwin’s and Twigs.   The store will donate 10 percent

of total sales to the hospital.  The Lollipop Shop

will feature over 400 types of candy…yum…and

the kids will love it.   Thanks for your support too…

happy birthday to a great citizen

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I’m a little late in wishing former Greenville mayor Max Heller a very happy 90th birthday which he celebrated last week.   I had the priviledge of knowing Max when I was doing news work in another lifetime.  His forethought was instrumental in making Greenville an international city and is credited in making downtown what it is today.  His dedication to the Greenville community is one of great inspiration.  Next time you’re downtown, take some time to admire the Max Heller sculpture and the surrounding Legacy Plaza.    Talk with you again soon….Lee

take it easy in the sun

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

After a recent visit to my dermatologist, I wanted to share a few things to protect yourself from the sun as we move into the summer months.   The number one thing is to think sunscreen. Always put it on before heading out in the sun…..if you do get a sunburn here are some things to remember.    Bathe with cool water,  drink lots of water,   use aloe vera to relieve some of the pain,  don’t peel  your skin and see your doctor if your skin blisters and peels severely.   I’m still paying for the many times  I failed to protect myself when I was in my teens and 20’s.   Have a fun summer……Lee

tv deal

Monday, June 1st, 2009

I knew it was coming soon…the woman who gave birth to the world’s longest surviving set of octuplets has signed a deal to star in a reality television series.  Nadya Suleman also has six other children in addition to her newborns.   The new show has not been sold yet to any of the networks but you can bet one of them will pick it up  sooner rather than later.  Under the plans for the show, tv crews will not follow Suleman and her children 24 hours a day but will document certain milestones such as birthdays.   I wonder how much money Suleman will pocket from this project….Lee

include South Carolina

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

U.S. News and World Report , in its annual report, says that drivers in New York scored the worst on driving habits, followed by California and Geogia.  I certainly agree with Georgia but I think that South Carolina should be included in the top 5 too.  On the way to work and other activities, drivers in this state are getting worse at speeding , running red lights and tailgating.  It is sad to see this trend developing but civility when it comes to driving is becoming a thing of the past..Lee
